What to Do When You Home Is Not Selling
October 30th, 2006 Real Estate
The process of selling your home is comparable to going to a job interview. It is all about the presentation. This is a key factor that will determine your outcome. While it may sound weird, you should know that the presentation really is a way of life in the real estate world. This is because today’s buyers are looking for a good presentation and many of them actually base their final decision upon this.
If you are selling a home that has a garage with it then you will need to clean it before selling your home. This is because you probably use your garage as a storage area and thus things have begun piling up without you even realizing it. If your garage is messy then it is time for you to clean it up. A person who is looking to buy a home wants a home that is in perfect condition. Anything less than perfect will look bad from a buyer’s standpoint.
A lot of homes actually have rather great features within them. These are the things that you want to work hard to highlight. You do not want to simply hope that the buyer will know what these things are. The best way in which to highlight these things is to use proper lighting. This works especially well when your home is clean.
You should realize that the first thing that a buyer sees when they arrive at your home is your yard. If you have a neat yard that is well maintained, then the buyer will get a good impression right away. On the other hand, if you have a messy yard, then your buyer may leave without even looking at the rest of your house. So, you can obviously see just how important your yard is. This is why you will want to put some thought into this area of your home. Make sure that the buyer is being presented with a good view of your yard. Take some time to plant some flowers, as this will look really nice.
The next area of your home that you will want to take a look at is your front entryway. Your front door and entryway should be in good shape. Adding plants, paintings and rugs to this area will give a good impression. Your goal here is to ensure that the buyer has a good impression whenever they enter your entryway. After all, your ultimate goal should be to please the buyer.
Even after you do all of these things you should still understand that it is going to take some time to sell your home. In today’s market, a house may be for sale for several months before it actually sells. In this case you may want to consider reducing your home’s price. Eventually you will sell your home. It may just take more time than you had thought it would.
