Things to Know Before Buying a Home

October 27th, 2006 Real Estate

If you are ready to buy a home and take the next step in your life then you probably feel the pressure and anxiety that goes along with this difficult decision.  You are probably eager to get any information you can get about real estate as well.  Of course it does help to get all the information you can before buying a home.

The first thing you will want to learn before buying a home is how much you can qualify or afford to borrow.  This means that you should also check out your credit so that you know where you stand.  It is also at this time that you should try to correct any problems because the higher your credit score, the lower your interest rate.

The next thing you will want to do is try to get pre approved by a mortgage broker or lender.  This will show that you are committed to the mortgage.  You will also want to look for payment and prepayment options so that you can subtract a few years from your mortgage.  After you have been pre approved and know where you stand with your payments, it is time to start looking for a house to buy.

When you are looking for a home you should only buy a home that is perfect for you.  So, before you begin shopping, you should make a list of everything that you want to have inside your home, based upon your needs and desires.  Of course you should also know where you are willing to compromise, just in case there is a need to do so.

A reputable realtor will be able to help you find your perfect home.  When meeting with your real estate agent you will discuss how much money you want to spend and what you are looking for in a home.  Your realtor will also know where to find these properties for you.  So, they can help you find the home that is best for you.

A realtor will also provide you with a list of homes that fit into your budget and have the features that you need and desire.  Once you have this list you should go for a drive and check out the homes and neighborhoods.  Look at the home’s appearance, location, safety, schools, accessibility, shopping and proximity to recreational activities.  If you do not find something of interest at first, then continue to look until you find what works best for you.  Your realtor can let you know when new homes come onto the market and give you tours of any home you care to look at.  They can also give you information about neighborhoods that you are unfamiliar with.  A good realtor will want to go out of their way to help you.

In order to get the most out of purchasing a home, you will want to make sure to hire a realtor whom you feel you can trust.  Your agent will truly help you to purchase a home.  They will give you tips and pointers and want to ensure your satisfaction.  As such your realtor should do everything possible to help you find your dream home.  Of course you can purchase a home without a realtor but it will take you longer and you will not get all of the help and amenities that a realtor has to offer.
